LIGHTS AND SOUNDS!

( light 1 throughout the whole scene)Oh cursed(Thunder 1) be that Lucretia Borgia! You say that she loves me.(rain 1,repeat on)Well! So much the better! Let that be her punishment! She fills me with horror!Yes!(Thunder 2)she fills me with horror. You know what i mean: It is impossible to be indifferent to a woman who loves you. You either love her, or you hate her. And how could i love that? Besides, the more one is persecuted by the love of that sort of woman(Thunder 3), the more one will hate her.(Rain 1 softer, all throughout the scene)

(horror 1,repeat on)I am obssessed with her, she surrounds and besieges me. (light 1 remains, add in red light a bit for this whole paragraph then slowly died down)What have i done to deserve the love of Lucretia Borgia? Its a disgrace and a Disaster! Ever since the night you told me her name in that earth-shattering fashion, you wouldn't believe how much the thought of that wicked woman disgusts me. Formerly, i had only seen her from afar, at a great distance, like a terrible phantom haunting the whole of Italy, like a spectre looming over everyone. Now that spectre haunts just me, it sits at my bedside, this hideous spectre loves me and wants to lie down on my bed! (horror 1 louder)On my mother's life, it appaling! AH! Maffio!(horror 1 sound slowly died down)

(horror 2) She murdered the Count of Gravina, she killed your brother! I would gladly take his place, but as i am still alive, i will take revenge on her! There(Thunder 4) she is in her execrable palace!(horror 2 louder)The palace of lust, palace of treason, palace of assassination, palace adultery, palace of incest, palace of every crime imagainable, palace of Lucretia Borgia! Oh! (ALL sounds died down)I may not be able to stamp the mark of infamy on that obscene woman's forehead, but i can at least stamp it on her palace! AH!!!!(Thunder 5 VERY LOUDLY!!!!)!!!!!

Costume Decision

The costume i chose is a Renaissance Period of costume in Italy called the Doublet. It was worn during the reinassance period by the males. It usually shows the male having broad shoulder, at the side they will be carrying sword and they were a cap. Usually for the bottom, it is fixed. Tight black pants and a black boot. Only the top design changes from different Doublet to another.

Setting Decision

The setting i choose will be in the forest. In this scene, Gennero and his friends have been dispatched to Ferrara as part of a venetian dlegation. Since in this monologue, Gennaro is grumbling and resenting over his mother, Lucretia Borgia, whom he loved so much, but also hate after learning the dark side of her from his friends. The setting in a forest gives the illusion that Gennaro is a bit 'puzzled', as he wonders in the forest. He is in two minds, to hate or to love her. The Angry part of him will be portrayed by lighting and thunders, while the disappointment part of him will portrayed when it pours. The use of the horse wants to give the audience the feeling that it is during ancient times that horses were used as a mean of transport. The large rock on the left side is to also show that during all those times, the rock where the sword can be 'pierced through'.

Beginning of Monologue Journey

5 May 2009(Monday)

I am doing a monologue on this guy called Gennaro from Lucretia Borgia by Victor Hugo. This story was written and set in the 16th century Italy but was performed 1st in Paris in 1833.

The story is about this Lucretia who came to Venice in disguise to be reuinited with Gennaro her son, whom she left behind years back. Gennaro love his mother, for he had not seen her before. But then, the love Lucretia felt for hwer own son was not the sort of motherly love, but rather the BGR love. gennaro initially didnt know too that she was her mother, and he too fell for her.

Then when Gennaro's friends told him about their 'romance' relationship, gennaro was repelled and Lucretia sought to take revenge on his friends for betraying her and alienating Gennaro.

In this scene, Gennaro had learnt that he was tricked by Lucretia into wearing her 'favour' and he has even taken lodgings opposite her balcony! Gennaro was furious to say the least. He cursed her name, blamed her, and vowed to take revenge on her, but also disgusted by the thought of love for her, but also haunted by the an unnatural obsession with her since their meeting.

Personally reading the monologue for the 1st time,i get this feeling that Gennaro is someone who cannot forgive easily. He gets infuriated easily. He sought to take revenge on those who had harmed him in any way. He is that sort of Gung-ho type i guess, yet has a stong will. In this monologue, as he vent on and on about his frustrations and anger towards Lucretia, i can still feel the love he had for Lucretia. In the beginning, he was really angry towards Lucretia, and slowly towards the back, i feel his anger slowly transforming into pity and 'lost for words' like that.I think the last part need a bit of crying scene. That will make the monologue complete and perfect! trust me.I know how to go about doing this. :)
